J Trust Bank Participates in Collaborative Action on Mangrove Planting

Karawang, January 20, 2022. Opening year 2023 PT Bank JTrust Indonesia Tbk participated in a collaborative action of planting mangroves in Karawang, West Java. The symbolic planting event was attended by representatives of 24 collaborators who gathered in the event entitled "Mangroves Will Protect Us". This Mangrove planting and caring activity was initiated by the Swara Indonesia Cemerlang Foundation, fully supported by Iwan Fals, a legendary Indonesian artist.

 

Based on the article www.mongabay.co.id, referring to One Map Mangrove data, Indonesia's mangrove ecosystem covers 3.5 million hectares, consisting of 2.2 million ha within the area and 1.3 million ha outside the mangrove area.

 

Senior researcher from the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), Daniel Murdiyarso, in his research (Murdiyarso et al., 2015), explained that Indonesia's mangrove forests store five times more carbon per hectare than upland tropical forests. Indonesia's mangroves also store 3.14 billion metric tons of carbon (PgC). Meanwhile, the lower part of the ecosystem stores carbon by: 78% carbon in the soil, 20% carbon in live trees, roots or biomass, and 2% in dead or fallen trees.
