Jakarta, 24 November 2024 – As part of its commitment to environmental conservation, on April 22, 2024 coinciding with International Earth Day J Trust Bank launched the TORA Green Savings program.
TORA Green Savings is the first J Trust Bank savings program created as part of the implementation of the company’s sustainability aspects. Through TORA Green Savings, J Trust Bank facilitates customers who have concerns and want to contribute to environmental conservation by setting aside 0.5% p.a of savings interest to be donated to Mangrove planting activities. For every Rp25,000 collectively raised, 1 (one) Mangrove tree will be planted in CarbonEthics’ planting area in Kepulauan Seribu, DKI Jakarta.
Through a working partner working with J Trust Bank in implementing mangrove planting, namely CarbonEthics, the first 500 mangroves have been planted as a result of donations collected from 505 TORA Green Savings customers (data as of November 2024) throughout Indonesia.
The mangroves planted are of the Rhizophora stylosa type, with a cluster planting method. Located on Harapan Island, Kepulauan Seribu (coordinates -5654257,106.574645) with a CO2 sequestration potential of 16,500 kg CO2e in 20 years.
As part of the blue carbon ecosystem, mangroves have a much higher ability to sequester carbon than terrestrial trees. These conservation efforts play an important role in climate change mitigation and biodiversity protection.
Through TORA Green Savings, it is expected to have a positive impact not only on the absorption of carbon emissions, but also on improving the welfare of coastal communities, especially mangrove farmers.
